Team Racing

Racing

Racing commences in April and runs through until October each year.

There are two areas of focus:

Club Racing for dayboats (Sonars, Garelochs and Pipers) is run in the Gareloch on Tuesday evenings with some additional Sunday races for the Gareloch Class. These are divided up into a number of series and although always hotly contested the racing is always in good spirit.

The Club also co-organises East Patch Racing with HSC. The East Patch is in the central Firth of Clyde loosely bound by Helensburgh, Kilcreggan, Gourock and Ardmore Point, with a permanent start mark near the “Sugar Ship”. There are Spring and Autumn Sunday Series but probably best known are the Wednesday night series. East Patch Racing starts for handicap, IRC, Sonars and Sonatas.

In addition to the aforementioned regular racing, the Club regularly hosts other annual regattas and open and championship events. Highlights for the 2011 season are the Sonar World Championships in August and a new team event in September based loosely on the Commodores Cup, a 3 boat team event. The inaugural event will be  on the 9th – 11th September and will begin with an overnight inshore race. This will be followed by course racing on the East Patch on Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

The event will be open to any team with a big, mid and small boat under IRC splits yet to be agreed. Boats competing in GSS regatta the following weekend will have mid week berthing free in Rhu Marina with a special rate for the weekends.
